World Water Crisis!!!

World Water Crisis

Global warming is quickly becoming a more publicly debated topic. Whether or not this new warming trend is caused by mankind's actions or natural phenomena is irrelevant. The facts are still the facts. Average temperatures are increasing globally, ice shelves are melting and receding at alarming rates, and natural aquifers and rivers are becoming dangerously depleted or already are. At least half the United States is in some form of a drought or preparing for drought conditions. Water conservation is becoming a nationwide problem and a world wide challenge. There are no simple solutions, however if we as a global community start working together we can prevent a world water crisis. If we don't start doing our own little part it will become a world wide catastrophe.

Are You Using An Environmental Hazard???

Traditionally watering meant connecting the hose to a sprinkler and caring in around your lan and garden every hour or so, or relying on an automated sprinkler system to do the job for you. Not only is this time consuming, it is extremely ineffective. Sprinklers do not apply water evenly, often times certain areas are completely saturated which can lead to anaerobic conditions in you soil. Worse still other areas do not receive enough water and are left to dry out or worse die. (everyone has struggled with yellow dry spots in there lawn due to sprinkler inefficacy). Using sprinklers can be detrimental to the overall health of you lawn, by causing extremely shallow root systems that are dependent on overhead irrigation and anything but drought tolerant.

Wind Drift

Sprinklers and had watering may seem effective but are very wasteful. Water is sprayed randomly, unpredictable, and worse unevenly. Sprinklers can use over 150 gallons of water during a single hour. Sprinklers inevitably watering fences, driveways, and even houses wasting gallons and gallons of water. Even more water is lost to other factors like wind drift, runoff, and over spray. In fact up to 50% of the water used by sprinklers can be lost to these factors. That means that less than half of the water may actually reach your lawn or garden. It is then quickly evaporated. This means that an extremely small amount of water actually reaches the ground. Where it may or may not have a chance to absorb down the root zone of your prized plants.

What Can You Do???

Conserving water is everyone's responsibility, whether it is in home water savings fixtures, efficiency appliances, or outdoor conservation methods. Outdoor conservation does not have to mean sacrificing you beautiful green lawn, prized garden, or even you succulent floral displays. The basic fact is that plants need water survive, this does net mean get rid of your plants to save water, it just means use the water more effectively. There is an alternative, a more effective form of irrigation that applies water directly to the root zone of plants so there is zero water loss. It's called capillary irrigation. It uses your soils natural water holding capability to water 300% more soil volume than sprinklers while using 85% less water. Imagine having a brighter more colorful garden and a greener lawn and lower water bills too.
